The French senior national team, Les Bleus, have been crowned the world champions as the FIFA 2018 World Cup ended in Russia. France won the cup with a 4-2 victory over Croatia in what can be described as one of the most thrilling World Cup finals in recent times. Actually, the six goals scored in the final is the same as the total number of goals scored in the last four finals from 2002 to 2014. Though Croatia dominated possession for most parts of the game, France had the victory bagged before the 70th minute as their number 10, Kylian Mbappe’s low drive from outside the box put the score 4-1 in their favour.
Scoring France’s fourth goal, the 19-year-old became the first teenager to score in a World Cup final since the great Pele scored in the 1958 final as a 17-year-old. The goal was Mbappe’s fourth in the tournament and summed up his crucial contribution to the team.
As well as having the strong backing of his nation, Mbappe had one very special supporter during the tournament. It was his girlfriend, Alicia Aylies, a model who was crowned Miss France in 2017.
The beauty queen travelled to Russia to see her ‘sweetheart’ play in the World Cup, win and get named the young player of the tournament.
Moments after France’s win, Alicia posted a video of how she celebrated France’s win which is exactly 20 years after their triumph on home soil even before Mbappe himself was born.
In the video, Alicia a delighted beamed to the camera and grabbed her friends in for a hug and she appeared overwhelmed with emotion as she became tearful and cupped her hand over her mouth.
Who could blame the beauty? It has been such a memorable tournament for her partner who is set to make his loan deal to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) a permanent one in a mega-deal.
Apart from sharing a love interest, the couple has many other things in common. Both were born in 1998 and are of immigrant descent.
While Mbappe was born on December 20, 1998, to a Cameroonian father and an Algerian mother, Aylies was born about six months earlier to parents from Martinique, French Island on the Caribbean.
Her father, Philippe Allies works as an environmental manager and her mother, Marie-Chantal Belfry, is a driving school instructor.
At the age of two, she moved with her family to French Guiana, on the border of Brazil.
She got into modelling while living in the region and competed in beauty pageants for her country.
Aylies is a graduate of the University of French Guiana where she studied law.
